2024 has started well with interesting exhibitions of drawings featuring at several major galleries. Holbein at the Tudor Court at The Queens Gallery continues until 14 April. The Charcoal Heads of Frank Auerbach opened at The Courtauld Gallery (until 27 May) and Bruegel to Rubens – Great Flemish Drawings at The Ashmolean Gallery in Oxford will open on 23 March (until 23 June).
Meanwhile I was delighted to learn that I have been chosen as one of the winners from the UK of the Fabriano in Acquerello award with my picture of Vernazza Aperol Break. As those of you who were with me last year at The Watermill at Posara in Tuscany will remember, we spent a day exploring the Cinque Terre, and Colleen and I walked along the coast before joining others at Vernazza, often said to be the most attractive town. I did a quick sketch of the scene for this painting, took a photo, then we moved on by boat for more views of this lovely coastline.
If you look at the Fabriano website (inartefabriano.it/home) you will see that Fabriano will be holding a conference in Bologna from 26-29 April as well as other events, and I will be going to Bologna to take part.
For those who like to plan ahead, I will be returning to The Watermill to lead another course there in June 2025. The details and how to reserve a place can be found here and please follow them on Social Media. The Watermill at Posara.
In March I was thrilled to attend the Private Viewing at the Mall Galleries, London of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour exhibition. My Portrait, Will and Holbein, was selected as part of this prestigious show which runs until 13 April. All very exciting!
My drawing and watercolour courses continue live on zoom and are recorded every week on Monday and Tuesday. Also, the popular live Wednesday watercolour and oil painting classes at Walsworth Community Centre. If you or any friends want further details of these, please get in touch through the contact page.
